Hugh M. Ferguson

Title: Management Consultant
Location: Walnut Creek, California, United States

Hugh Ferguson, Management Consultant, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in business administration, accounting, and consulting.

In 1956, Mr. Ferguson graduated from Seattle University with a Bachelor of Science. He was certified in Naval Communications in 1959 and in U.S. Navy Deep Sea Diving in 1960, and started as a data system consultant with the Center for Exhibition Industry Research in 1961. He continued his academic pursuits at George Washington University, earning an MBA in 1963, and accepted a position as a data system consultant at Technical Operations Research Company. In 1964, Mr. Ferguson transitioned to a role as manager of systems and programming at Western Pacific Railroad Company, where he worked until 1970.

As a Certified Data Processing Auditor, Certified Data Processor, and Certified Public Accountant in the State of California, Mr. Ferguson was hired by Ernst & Whinney, CPAs in 1970. He was initially hired as a senior consultant, and was quickly promoted to supervisor within a year—a huge accomplishment, given the typical five-year timetable for this sort of promotion. He continued to rise within the company and became a management consultant, spending a decade with the company before he transitioned to Amicon Corporation in 1980, where he worked as president and director of the company until 2000.

In high school, Mr. Ferguson took many technical classes because of his Seattle prep school background. He knew that he wanted to spend his time elsewhere and explained to his principal that he was interested in business, so the principal moved him into an accounting and bookkeeping class, which set him up for his career in the field. He has been recognized for his success and excellence with his membership to Alpha Sigma Nu, and has maintained affiliation to multiple professional organizations, including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the California Society of CPAs, the Association for Systems Management, the Naval Reserve Association, and the U.S. Navy League, among many others.
