He began working as a researcher at the Institute for High Temperatures in the Russian Academy of Sciences, and in 1992, he accepted a position at EVRAZ. From 1992 to 2009, Dr. Bizhanov served as the commercial director of the Russian Metallurgical Sector, and from 2006 to 2008, he additionally worked as the commercial director of Kosaya Gora Iron Works. He continued to employ his expertise as a wastes oxides processing expert at Harsco Metals & Minerals from 2008 to 2010, and since his departure from the company, he has acted as an independent representative and shareholder at J.C. Steele & Sons Inc.
In his work as a shareholder and independent representative, Dr. Bizhanov has helped J.C. Steele & Sons Inc. enter a new market. The company was well-known for brickmaking, but he assisted them in entering the metal processing industry, which has proved successful. He has developed multiple new metallurgical technologies, including: briquetting of the natural and anthropogenic iron-containing materials of ferrous metallurgy based on vibration and extrusion, purification of the oily mill scale by the strong magnetic field, and iron and zinc extraction from metallurgical sludge by the vortex bed apparatus in the presence of a strong magnetic field. Dr. Bizhanov has co-authored multiple works, including “Agglomeration in Metallurgy (Topics in Mining, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering)” in 2019, “Stiff Extrusion Briquetting in Metallurgy (Topics in Mining, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering)” in 2017, and has authored more than 60 papers and five books. He holds 15 patents in his field, and is a member of the Association for Iron and Steel Technology.
