Gregory Hill, President and COO of Hess Corp. at Hess Corp., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the fields of engineering and management.
With an innate curiosity as to how things worked, Mr. Hill has always been interested in learning all he could about anything mechanical. Growing up in Wyoming where the oil and gas industries are prominent influenced his career path. Additionally, Mr. Hill was inspired by vice president Dick Chaney. Mr. Chaney was at the time president of The Chief of Staff and came to speak at the local community college. Mr. Hill read Mr. Chaney’s biography and he realized that he saw himself in Mr. Chaney as he was also from a small town in Wyoming and eventually became the vice president of the United States. So that inspired him. Upon completing his studies at community college, Mr. Hill attended the University of Wyoming where he achieved membership with Pi Tau Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi and earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering in 1983.
Mr. Hill presently serves as the president and chief operations officer of Hess Corp. (formerly Amerada Hess) in Houston, and has held this role since 2009. Previously, Mr. Hill worked For Shell E&P International as the executive vice president of the Asia division 2006 to 2008, vice president of production in Europe from 2003 to 2006, chief executive officer in London from 2002 to 2003 and briefly as the vice president of planning executive strategy and affairs in 1998. He has also worked with Aera Energy LLC as and the senior operating vice president from 1999 to 2002, senior vice president of innovation and breakthrough performance in 1999, and the vice president of operating from 1996 to 1997.
Furthermore, Mr. Hill worked for Calresources, LLC as the vice president of operating in 1996 and area manager of the LA Basin from 1994 to 1995. He has worked with Shell Western E&P in Houston as the manager of petroleum engineering from 1992 to 1993, Shell Oil Co. in Houston as a strategic planning manager from 1991 to 1992, and with Shell California Production, Inc., in Bakersfield as the division engineering manager from 1988 to 1990. In addition to these roles, Mr. Hill has served as a board member of the National Ocean Industries Association since 2019, Harbour Energy since 2018, API Upstream Committee since 2013, and chair of energy committee with the Greater Houston Partnership since 2015.
Mr. Hill believes it is important to balance and maintain a healthy work ethic and he strives to balance that with quiet peaceful time. He believes people must always seek knowledge and challenge themselves, even if they do not always know what the future holds.
