William Sharfman, PhD, principal of Sharfman and Co, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in consulting.
With more than 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Sharfman has displayed an ability to provoke change for a positive outcome, as the principal of Sharfman and Co since 1985. Prior to establishing his own firm, he was senior vice president – strategic planning at J. Walter Thompson USA from 1978 to 1985, and senior vice president – strategic planning for JWT’s Corporate Communications Division before that. Earlier in his career, he started Courses for College Credit at Sun Valley in 1971, was vice chairman of the English Department at Idaho State University from 1970 to 1972, and a lecturer and preceptor at Columbia College and Columbia University from 1966 to 1970.
Dr. Sharfman’s B.A. with honors in English is from the University of Michigan, 1964, with minors in psychology, and art history. He completed a Master of Arts in 1965 and PhD in English and comparative literature in 1969 at Columbia University. He has, inter alia, been a jazz musician, motorcycle road racer, and automotive journalist, as well as director of judging for the Automotive News PACE Awards for innovation (1994-2009). He is a life member of the University of Michigan Alumni Association, of the Columbia University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Alumni Association, is a member of the Authors Guild, the National Writers Union, and the International Motor Press Association, and has been a radio broadcaster in New York.
