The Very Reverend H. Scott Kirby, Priest, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in religious leadership.
Rev. Kirby has never known a time in his life when he didn’t want to be a priest. Growing up, his parents and godparents instilled a great love for the church in his life. This love for the church is what encouraged him to attend seminary instead of going to school to become a dentist like his mother wanted. He received a Master of Divinity from the General Theological Seminary in New York City in 1963 and was ordained as a priest by the Episcopal Church that same year. Rev. Kirby was so proud to receive that honor, as it indicted him into the priesthood.
Rev. Kirby began working in 1963 as an assistant to the rector at the Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul in Charleston, South Carolina. He went on to become the curate of the Church of the Advent in Kenmore, New York from 1963 until 1966. After that, Rev. Kirby acted as the rector for the Church of St. John the Baptist in Dunkirk, New York, and later at the Church of St. John on the Mountain in Bernardsville, New Jersey. From 1979 to 1988, he was the resident director and director of development at St. Francis Academy. By this time, Rev. Kirby had accumulated a myriad of experiences that qualified him for higher up positions in the church. From 1988 until 2005, he was Dean of Christ Church Cathedral in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He then proceeded to act as the priest in charge at Grace Church in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, from 2005 until 2018. Rev. Kirby is currently the canon at Christ Church Cathedral in Salina, Kansas, where he has been since 1979. He has additionally provided insight to many church councils and committees and is a frequent contributor to articles in magazines.
As a testimonial to his success, Rev. Kirby has been honored with two distinguished awards in the religious community. In 1980, he was given the Bishop’s Service Award from the Diocese of Western Kansas. Later in his career, he was presented with the Distinguished Alumni Award from the General Theological Seminary. Furthermore, he is a member of the Anglican Society. Rev. Kirby has been featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, as well as the 4th edition of Who’s Who in Religion and the 26th edition of Who’s Who in the Midwest.
