James Alston, the Chief Executive Officer of McCall’s Bronxwood Funeral Home, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership.
After taking over his family business in 2005, Mr. Alston has served as the owner and chief executive officer of McCall’s Bronxwood Funeral Home. Previously, he worked at the funeral home for nearly 40 years, during which he was a practicing attorney. As a legal professional, he was a former law secretary of the New York Civil Court and a former assistant district attorney for The Bronx. In addition, Mr. Alston is a former president of the Dewitt Clinton High School Alumni Association and chairs the Barbara M. Simpson Memorial Fund, which was established to provide scholarships to young adults pursuing literary careers. The fund awards $1,000 scholarships to about 25 students every year.
In preparation for his professional pursuits, Mr. Alston graduated with a Bachelor of Science in economics from New York University in 1962, and in 1965, he earned a JD from the Howard University School of Law. He holds a Building Operator Certification and has been recognized for his achievements with numerous awards and accolades. Mr. Alston received the Businessman of the Year Award from the Macedonia Baptist Church, an International Excellence Award in Scholarship Support from NANBPWC, the International Lawyers Award from the Manila College of Law and a Distinguished Service Award from the Bronx-Manhattan North Association of Realtors, among many more. He maintains memberships to the NAACP, the Northeast Bronx Child Care Centers, the Thru Way Home Owners Association, the New York State Bar and the American Bar Association Foundation. Mr. Alston attributes his professional success to his work ethic, and to his ability to overcome challenges.
