Title: Housing Specialist (Retired)
Location: Phoenix, Arizona, United States
Marie A. Langan, Retired Housing Specialist, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership.
Ms. Langan found success through a series of unexpected events. Early on in her life, she dropped out of high school to raise her three children as a single parent because she had lost her job. She knew she had to find a way to support her family, so she enrolled in the Federal Work Incentive Program. However, it did not provide the help she needed. Ms. Langan decided to register for the Environmental Health Program, but to be accepted, she would need a GED, which she earned shortly thereafter. She then enlisted in the program and finished as third from the top of her class. She went on to work as an Environmental Health Assistant in Manchester, Connecticut, where she was one of two selected government employees to do fieldwork identifying polluted waters. As her career developed, she worked as the code enforcement officer of Enfield, Connecticut, and later as the housing code enforcement officer of Wallingford, Connecticut. Her efforts paid off successfully when she accepted a role as the housing specialist for the judicial department of the state of Connecticut in 1983. She remained there until 1997.
Ms. Langan received the Plaque of Recognition for Community Mediation in 1990. She additionally had a scholarship founded in her name from the Connecticut Association of Housing Code Enforcement. The Maria A. Langan Scholarship helps family members of the association and was first given out in 2007. Though she has received numerous other honors, Ms. Langan cites these experiences as the highlights of her career, as she is extremely proud to have been so notably recognized. As a further testament to her success, Ms. Langan has been featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in American Women, as well as the 72nd edition of Who’s Who in America, and the 1st edition of Who’s Who in Media and Communication.
