Inspired by her travels to various countries, Ms. Slawiak decided to pursue a career in teaching to give back to her community. She attended Gannon University and earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1981, later securing a Master of Science in communications from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1983. Moreover, she concluded her academic efforts with a master’s degree in education in instructional technology in 2010.
At the start of her career, Ms. Slawiak worked as a technical writer with the Allen-Bradley Corporation, further progressing to the senior product engineer between 1984 and 1987. Soon thereafter, she joined Digital Equipment Corp., in Westfield, Massachusetts, where she served the roles of a demand manager, an information systems consultant, and a manager of integration project planning until her departure in 1994. Today, she excels as a digital literacy and computer science teacher with Wilbraham Middle School. In a career filled with highlights, she is most proud of receiving the Pathfinder Award and the Bill Gates Award. These achievements were significant because Ms. Slawiak was a female pioneer in the industry at the time.
To remain aware of changes in the field, she maintains a relationship with a number of professional organizations. A member of the Society for Technical Communication, she is also affiliated with the National Association of Professional Women and the International Society for Technology in Education. An exceptional Marquis listee, Ms. Slawiak has been featured in editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in the Midwest, Who’s Who of American Women, and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
