Ernest Lamour, Chief Executive Officer at Ridgewood YMCA, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in sports and recreation.

A native of Haiti, Mr. Lamour relocated to Stamford, Connecticut with his parents at the age of eight. While growing up in Stamford, he was exposed to a community where drugs and drug usage was fairly prominent. To avoid the pressures of his environment, he began attending the Stamford YMCA where he was able to remain active in sports. Upon graduating from high school, Mr. Lamour pursued a formal education at Southern Connecticut State University and earned a Bachelor of Science in recreation and leisure studies in 2003. During this time, he had also been the director of youth sports and recreation with the Stamford Jewish Community Center, for a year.

Between 2005 and 2008, Mr. Lamour progressed with the Stamford Jewish Community Center and served as the assistant director of JCC Maccabi Games director of youth programs, summer camp, sports and recreation. Consequently, he joined the Stamford YMCA as the senior program director in 2008. While working with Stamford YMCA, Mr. Lamour also contributed as the athletics director for the Jewish High School of Connecticut, between 2009 and 2010. In addition, he received a Master of Science in sports management from West Virginia University. Moreover, he departed from the Stamford YMCA as the chief executive officer in 2016 and has since assumed employment with the Ridgewood YMCA. Mr. Lamour attributes his success to his mentors as well as his work ethic and upbringing.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Lamour has been the recipient of numerous honors and accolades. He was presented the Mary McLeod Bethune Education Award from the Stamford NAACP in 2016 as well as the Community Impact Award from the Stamford YMCA in 2019, among others. In the coming years, Mr. Lamour would like to continue mentoring others. He hopes to work to reach more people in various communities with the goal of providing more leadership and developmental programs for the youth. Outside of work, he enjoys playing sports, traveling with family, and indulging in his foodie hobby.
