Sharyn N. Lewin, MD, Director of Gynecologic Oncology at Holy Name Medical Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of ovarian, endometrial, uterine, cervical, vulvar, and vaginal cancers.
Dr. Lewin became a gynecologist because she wanted to follow her grandmother’s example and become a prominent figure in women’s health. To acquire the necessary credentials, she attended the University of Kansas and earned both a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry in 1997 and an MD in 2001. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in 2005. Later, in 2009, she carried out her fellowship in gynecologic oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
Dr. Lewin has explored medicine through several different practices. She has worked as an assistant clinical professor, director, and executive in multiple healthcare facilities. Currently, she is the president and executive director of The Lewin Fund to Fight Women’s Cancers, where she has been since 2013. She is responsible for the organization’s operations, and for setting its strategic vision. She is also the organization’s chief ambassador, responsible for advancing The Lewin Fund’s mission to invest in grassroots initiatives and research that directly support women who are afflicted with cancer and their families. In 2014, she accepted the position of director of the gynecologic oncology division at Holy Name Medical Center. She remains there today alongside her position as assistant clinical professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York.
Previously, Dr. Lewin was an assistant clinical professor and a member of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at Columbia University Medical Center, New York-Presbyterian Hospital. While there, she became the first medical director of the Woman to Woman Program, a cancer support initiative. She has additionally reflected on her medical findings in a collection of over 100 published creative works, which she hopes will reach individuals outside her jurisdiction of practice. She wants to help as many women as possible.
Dr. Lewin has found much professional success, which is reflected in her numerous awards. She has been named a Castle Connolly Regional Top Doctor in the New York Metro Area since 2015 and received the New York-Presbyterian Hospital’s Physician of the Year Award. In 2004, the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists gave her the President’s Award. She was additionally inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society as a result of her contributions to the field. She holds membership in the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, the American College of Surgeons, American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. As a testament to her success, she was given the Humanitarian Award from Marquis Who’s Who in 2019.
