Title: Executive Director
Company: Sanibel Sea School

J. Bruce Niell, Executive Director at Sanibel Sea School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in marine conservation and education.
Mr. Niell fell in love with the ocean at a young age. Growing up in the south, he was in close proximity to the dramatic beauty of the ocean and the surrounding wildlife. He was enchanted by it, and thus, when the time came to declare what he would study in college, he immediately knew. He earned a Bachelor of Science in zoology from the University of Georgia in 1982, which he followed up with a master’s degree in coral reef biology from the University of Guam Marine Library in 1985. Mr. Niell furthered his education again in 1995 when he earned a PhD in conservation and evolution from Montana State University.
From 1992 until 1994, Mr. Niell worked as the field director of the Turks and Caicos Center for Marine Conservation. He thoroughly enjoyed it. However, he soon discovered he enjoyed educating young minds as well. He worked as a professor at both Central Oregon Community College and Louis and Clark College for several years before he came to his primary position. In 2005, Mr. Niell co-founded the Sanibel Sea Scool in Sanibel, Florida. It is a field-based institution that teaches children about the ocean from practical experience. Mr. Niell has acted as the executive director since 2005. It is the perfect combination of education and fieldwork, which is why he consistently excels in his role. Through his work, Mr. Niell is able not only to improve marine conservation but help children find themselves and unmask a potential they never knew they had. He looks forward to many more years of working in such a gratifying position.
