Charles L. Donahue Jr., Health Care Consultant, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements and leadership in health care.
With nearly 35 years of professional experience, Mr. Donahue was the senior health care advisor to the Governor of Rhode Island from 2004 to 2007. Prior to obtaining this role, he was the president and co-founder of HealthCare Value Management from 1990 to 2004, executive director of the Health Planning Council for Greater Boston, Inc., from 1981 to 1989, and a public health advisor and regional program consultant for the Department of Health and Human Services from 1980 to 1981. Prior to this, from 1976 to 1980, he was the director of health plan development at the Boston University Center for Health Planning and Boston University Health Policy Center, and, from 1975 to 1976, he was the co-director of the Massachusetts Maternity and Newborn Regionalization Project at the Massachusetts Health Research Institute, where he had been a planner since 1974. Earlier in his career, Mr. Donahue was a planner and director of Region 6 for the Health Planning Council for Greater Boston, Inc., from 1973 to 1974.
Mr. Donahue was inspired to pursue a career in the field from an experience he had with the Peace Corps, having served in Malaysia and helped with a tuberculosis control program. He was further piqued by President John F. Kennedy’s speech asking what people could do for their country. Mr. Donahue pursued an education with Brown University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1965. He continued his studies with Cornell University, earning a Master of Arts in 1973.
A respected voice in his areas of interest, Mr. Donahue has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. The former chair of the New England chapter of the Ireland Chamber of Commerce, he is a member of the Westwood Massachusetts, the Irish American Partnership Board and the Dean’s Advisory Council of the Boston University School of Public Health. Mr. Donahue has also served on the boards of directors of the Brown University Sports Foundation, the Boston Irish Business Association, the New England Employee Benefits Council and the Irish International Immigrant Center.
Throughout his career, Mr. Donahue has been recognized for his contributions, including having been named Citizen of the Year by the Friends of St. Nick. He received the Community Service Award from the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers, the Richard H. Schlesinger Achievement Award from the American Public Health Association and American Health Planning Association, and the Superior Performance Award from the Department of Health and Human Services. Furthermore, Mr. Donahue has received financial awards from the Cornell University Center for International Studies research grants committee and has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the East and Who’s Who in the World.
