James B. Howell III, Former Sales Consultant for the Asgrow Seed Company, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements and leadership in agricultural sales.

With more than 40 years of professional experience, Mr. Howell was a sales consultant with the Asgrow Seed Company, a subsidiary of the Upjohn Company, from 1960 to 1999. Prior to obtaining this role, he was an agricultural sales representative with Allied Chemical Corporation from 1957 to 1959. Earlier in his career, he served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Reserve, attaining the rank of colonel in 1957. In addition to his primary roles, Mr. Howell has served on the board of directors of Advance Weight Systems, Inc.

Mr. Howell was inspired to pursue a career in the field from an early age, having grown up on a vegetable farm. He was further encouraged by the example of his mentor, Gilbert Sheppard. He first pursued an education at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in vegetable crops agriculture, with high honors, in 1956. Mr. Howell continued his studies at the University of Delaware, earning a Master of Business Administration in 1980.

A respected voice in his areas of interest, Mr. Howell has been affiliated with a number of community organizations. He is a member of Alpha Zeta, the Brothers of the Century and Phi Beta Kappa. He has also been active with the Reserve Officers Association of the United States, the Vegetable Growers Association of New Jersey, the Centennial Honor Roll and the National Defense Industrial Association. He is a trustee of the First Presbyterian Church of Cedarville, New Jersey, the former chair of the Lawrence Township Zoning Board of Adjustment and an admissions liaison officer for the U.S. Military Academy. For his contributions to the field, the New Jersey Agriculture and Business Association gave Mr. Howell a Heritage Award, and Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey gave him a Horticultural Award.
