Daniel O. Smith, Consultant, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in thermal insulation and refractory applications.
Mr. Smith first attended college, intending to become a mechanical engineer, but during summer break, his uncle asked him to help him out. He never returned to college and stayed in the family business, working on project sites and rising through the ranks, becoming a foreman, job supervisor and project superintendent. Mr. Smith later moved into office work, becoming an estimator, project manager and international project manager on large projects overseas. The family business began with his stepfather, uncles and kinsmen, who served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. They maintained the boilers and steam systems, which served to power the navy’s warships, and after the war, the family business came ashore in the form of coal, gas and oil powerhouses.
Following the retirement of Mr. Smith’s older relatives, he worked for several large firms and finally, he opened his own business, where he supplied pre-fabricated high-temperature removable insulation systems for use in domestic and international power plants. Though they are both closed now, his companies were Southern Thermal Fabricators and Absolute Accurate Products, and he continues to apply his expertise as a consultant in the field to this day. He was also employed by the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers. Mr. Smith has found success through his written works, authoring “Industrial Installation: A General Guide to Fabrication and Insulation in Shop and Field” in 2010 and “Cloth Removable and Reusable Insulation for General Industry.” In addition, he is an instructor and in his free time, he enjoys fishing, hunting and visiting industrial museums.
