Interested in her field as early as high school, Ms. Pittman is a stenographic court reporter through her own private company, Maellen E. Pittman, RDR FCRR CSR(IL) CRI RSA. She began her professional career as a freelance court reporter in the Chicago area in 1978, remaining in this position for four years before becoming an official court reporter for the U.S. District Court of Chicago from 1982 to 2015. In preparation for her career, Ms. Pittman pursued a formal education at Phoenix College in Arizona, earning an Associate of Arts in 1978. She then attended the University of Alabama, where she completed coursework in 1990.

Outside of her primary trade, Ms. Pittman served on the board of directors for the U.S. Court Reporters Association from 1989 to 2005. She also maintains involvement with the National Court Reporters Association, the Illinois Shorthand Reporters Association and the Maryland Court Reporters Association, as well as formerly with the Daughters of the American Revolution in 2010. In recognition of her efforts, Ms. Pittman received the Samuel Blumburg Award of Excellence in 1992 and the Lifetime Membership Award from the U.S. Court Reporters Association in 2016. Likewise, she was selected for inclusion in the 24th edition of Who’s Who in the Midwest. Moving forward, she would like to be back in government, specifically in the intelligence area.
