Catarina Matias, Executive Director of Hotel Operations for Hotels Unlimited, Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in hospitality management.
Ms. Matias’ dream of working in the hospitality industry stemmed from watching the television show Gilmore Girls and the movie The Wedding Planner during her formative years. These hatched a dream in her to one day own her own inn or hospitality venue. After earning a Bachelor of Science in hospitality management from Pennsylvania State University in 2016, she commenced her career with Hotels Unlimited, Inc. as the associate director of hotel operations. After serving in this role for two years, she continued her climb through up the corporate ladder to become the Director of Hotel Operations until being named the Executive Director of Hotel Operations in 2019. In addition to working in these ventures, Ms. Matias has garnered experience as a Resident Assistant at Pennsylvania State University since 2013.
Prior to obtaining her undergraduate degree, Ms. Matias remained set on her goals to work in the hospitality industry. In the years leading up to her formal career, she worked as a Conference Services Executive Intern for The Penn Stater Hotel & Conference Center at Pennsylvania State University in 2015, as a Corporate Offices Intern with Hotels Unlimited, Inc. from 2014 to 2016, as Food and Beverage Human Resources Intern with Hershey Entertainment & Resorts in 2013and as a Front Desk Attendant with the Radisson Hotel of Hotels Unlimited, Inc. in 2013. To better serve her aspirations, Ms. Matias obtained certifications in alcohol service and in food service from ServSafe. She has an AHLEI STR Certification, is a Certified Wedding Planner through The Bridal Society and is certified in Hotel Industry Analytics.
In five years, Ms. Matias endeavors to become the owner of an inn or hotel venue where she can also plan weddings. She wants to own her own business and continue working in a customer service field. In her current daily operations, Ms. Matias is in charge of overseeing the day-to-day operations for all eleven hotels in her company’s portfolio; which includes a combination of full and select service properties with brands such as Sheraton, Hilton and Holiday Inn. She is responsible for overseeing the development and subsequent execution of the company’s strategic initiatives to increase occupancy, ADR, and guest satisfaction while maintaining strict compliance with all federal, state and franchise regulations, as well as the responsibility for the recruitment, hiring, training, mentoring and development of all property level management personnel. Ms. Matias monitors and responds to numerous financial and operational metrics to ensure company objectives are being met and for developing action plans to address any unmet goals, and is responsible for food and beverage operations at full service properties. She is proficient conversationalist in the languages of Portuguese, Spanish, and French and has proficient use of Opera, On-Q, Light-Speed, Delphi, Daylight, Micros POS products, Signature phone calls, Time Prosoftware, Microsoft Office Suite products, MAS 500, and BizNet. In 2019, she was recognized as one of the Thirty Under 30 by Hotel Management.
