Aaron E. Marks, Marketing Manager at ASM Global/Carlson Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in marketing.
Mr. Marks’ family didn’t really influence his career choice because his dad is a photographer. However, his father did study communications and Mr. Marks ended up studying communications as well, but he was never into photography. As far as sports broadcasting, it was a lifelong dream and he remembers when he was six years old playing basketball in his backyard and was more focused on following the imaginary game in his head than actually making the shot. He was a sports broadcaster for about 10 years, had a blast going to basketball tournaments, and has the ring to prove it. It was really cool and a lot of fun, but as he got older, his goal changed. He enjoyed being in sports but it was 70-80 hours a week and that was no longer acceptable. He needed his work-life balance to improve and now he is able to travel and do things he wasn’t able to do before. Mr. Marks earned a Bachelor of Science in mass communication from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2005. After a change of careers, he went back to school and received a Master of Science in digital marketing from Rutgers Business School in 2020.
Mr. Marks greatest career achievement to date and what he is most proud of is probably some of the employee development that he was able to do when he was with the CBS Sports Radio. He started an internship program with the university, two programs, one with mass media where students got to work on his show and learn about production and set up interviews. He also had a sales and marketing internship where students got to shadow him, write proposals, meet with clients, and come up with creative ideas. He is most proud of what those students have accomplished. One student spent the last seven years working for the Kansas City Chiefs, and she posted a picture with the super bowl trophy. She started out as an intern under him, and he thinks what she is doing is really cool. One of his broadcasting interns ended up getting his own show at Mr. Marks’ station. Then he was hired by Yahoo radio, he left since then, but the fact that he got to work on national radio for a couple of years was cool and rewarding. Another of his interns was his producer for two years and now works for Under Armour. Mr. Marks has been the marketing manager part-time at Goldstream Sports since 2019 and also the marketing and box office manager for ASM Global/Carlson Center since 2018. He previously worked as a brand marketing strategist for the Curtis Media Group from 2016 to 2018, the program director and daily sports talk host account executive for Cumulus Media from 2011 to 2018 and was a play-by-play broadcaster at Coastal Carolina University from 2012 to 2016.
