Mark Stephen Osaki, Development Director and Writer, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the nonprofit sector.
As a poet, Dr. Osaki was always interested in how individuals react to their legacy. His poetry is inspired by personal past and present experiences, expressing hope through pain and loss.
His mentor throughout his career was the renowned American poet, Leonard Nathan who taught at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Osaki earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California Berkley in 1974 as an Alumni Scholar. He later received a Doctor of Philosophy from Georgetown University in 1984.
Dr. Osaki’s career highlights involve work for the U.S. government in international relations and intelligence studies and thereafter for community nonprofit organizations. He became an associate director of development at the RAND Corporation in 1992, he moved up to consultant in 1997 and remained with the company until 2001. His work in the nonprofit sector includes executive positions in public policy, domestic violence and animal rights agencies
Dr. Osaki is the author of Best Evidence, a critically acclaimed collection of poetry and has had poems published in numerous anthologies and poetry journals. His work has received awards from the Academy of American Poets, University of California, Berkeley, San Francisco Arts Commission, Seattle Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. He has received three Pushcart Prize nominations, Bumbershoot Awards for Poetry and Short Fiction, the Dorothy Rosenberg Prize in Lyric Poetry, the Eisner Prize in Poetry, Elizabeth Mills Crothers Prize in Literary Composition, Ina Coolbrith Memorial Poetry Prize, Irving Wallace Prize for Poetry and RAND Alumni Association Award. He has also been listed in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, the 20th edition of Who’s Who in the World and the 34th edition of Who’s Who in Finance and Business.
