James “Jimmy” Miles Jr., Reserve Deputy and Sergeant at Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in law enforcement.
Growing up in the inner city of Detroit, Mr. Miles looked up to his local police officers and strived to one day be like them. He deeply respected authority, and since 1989 he has excelled in his role as reserve deputy and sergeant with the Hanover County Sheriff’s Officer, with much thanks to his 24 years in the U.S. Army. Additionally, Mr. Miles works security at the Hanover County Court House and is backed by previous experience as an electrician with Dominion Virginia Power from 1978 to 2013. He achieved an Associate degree in criminal justice from the University of Phoenix in 1999 and went on to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in youth development from the College of Commissioner Science to support his strong beliefs in guiding today’s youth to beneficial futures. He spends his free time volunteering with United Way and serving as a “reading buddy” at a local school.
Notably, Mr. Miles has been the recipient of the Excellence of Service Award from the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office in 2017 and holds three military commendations and medals. He attributes all of his career success to the work of his lord and savior Jesus Christ, as well as his family, Mr. Thomas Chapman and Mr. Owens, who always supported his endeavors. Mr. Miles is a member of the Carey Wheaton Lodge Mason, Hatcher Cole Fraternal Order of Police, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion Post 175. Upon his retirement, he plans to dedicate even more time to his local community and to his local congregation, of which he is a deacon.
