Nancy J. Preis, General Director at Opera of the Ozarks, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in musical direction.

Having accrued more than 40 years of inimitable experience in her field, Dr. Preis currently serves as the general director of the Opera of the Ozarks. In her role since 2014, Dr. Preis gained prior experience with the St. Petersburg Opera Co. as chief financial operator and marketing director from 2008 to 2017. Additionally, she has served in numerous executive roles throughout the course of her career, including chief executive officer and director of Sensor Systems from 1998 to 2017, as well as president, chief executive officer, and director of Motor Magnetics from 1996 to 2017. Further, she was the president and chief executive officer of Fisher Technology, Inc. from 1991 to 2017. In the earlier years of her career, Dr. Preis was an associate professor at Columbia University from 1980 to 1988 and vice president of Kleinwort Benson, Ltd. for three years. She also spent time as a consultant to the Chemical Bank and Morgan Stanley in New York City in the 1980s.

Dr. Preis received a Bachelor of Arts in English literature in 1971 and a Master of Business Administration in 1974, both from the University of Toledo. In 1982, she achieved a PhD in business and accounting from the University of Michigan, where she was the first woman to obtain this degree from the institution. Commissioning music and art has been the highlight of Dr. Preis’ career, as she feels honored to have contributed to bringing beauty into the world. In addition to her musical creations, she deeply enjoys mentoring young opera singers and collaborating with composers. A member of Beta Gamma Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi, and Opera America, Dr. Preis has also been the managing trustee of the Baumker Foundation since 1981. She remains the active docent and treasurer to Sunken Gardens and charter volunteer with the Palladium Theater.
