Thomas A. Carter, Retired Engineering Executive at Independent Mechanical Design Co., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in construction engineering.
A respected voice in his community, Mr. Carter commenced his professional career as a master chief serving the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1976. Upon his exit from the military, Mr. Carter worked as a contract administrator for Red Lobster Restaurants in Orlando, Florida from 1976 to 1978 and subsequently found work as an independent engineer with a private practice for two years, from 1978 to 1980. For the next four years, he excelled as a secretary for the Blacando Development Corp. from 1980 to 1984. Backed by an exceptional education, Mr. Carter achieved a Bachelor of Arts in 1980 from Jones College in Ellisville, Mississippi, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration, cum laude, in 1982 from his alma mater.
A certified construction inspector, Mr. Carter had notably served as an estimator for the Independent Mechanical Design Co. from 1996 until his retirement in 2005. In addition to his most recent professional role, he had worked as a consultant in the field and as the chief engineer for D.A.M.S., Inc. from 1984 to 1991. Looking back on his professional years, Mr. Carter has noticed the great shift in the field due to the advancement of technology. He believes technology has been an incredible driving force in engineering and construction as a guide to knowledge but advises current and up-and-coming professionals to not put too much trust into its capabilities, as the human mind is the strongest tool.
Mr. Carter presently holds membership with the Fleet Reserve Association, Armed Forces Top Enlisted Association, Retired Air Force Marine Army Navy, National Pinochle Association, and Navy SeaBee Veterans of America. In civic affairs, Mr. Carter contributes his time and resources through the Rafman Club Orlando, the American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans. In his free time, he enjoys bowling, tennis, and traveling.
