Marsha Wilkes Beatty, BS, MPH, Assistant Professor of Research and Director of the Senior Externship Program at the Oklahoma University College of Dentistry, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership.
Ms. Beatty set out on her journey to professional success with the goal of making a difference in the lives of others. As she pursued an education, she earned a Bachelor of Science in medical microbiology from Stanford University and then a Master of Public Health from the University of Texas Health Science Center. In the early days of her career, she worked in a number of different roles, including health planner, freelance consultant, and public relations minister. In 2009, she took on a position at the Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center in the College of Dentistry. This was the first of many roles there for Ms. Beatty, as she went on to become a sponsored program coordinator and co-director for the pilot training program before becoming the assistant professor of research and the director of the senior externship program. She remains in that position today.
Ms. Beatty became involved in oral health after noticing just how important it was. She believed by educating others on its importance that she could fulfill her goal of making a difference. Looking back on a long and successful career, she attributes her many accomplishments to blessings from the Lord. She was blessed with a creative mind, which allows her to see the world differently than others and bring something different to the table in regards to her style of leadership. She maintains affiliation with the Oklahoma Oral Health Coalition, the St. John Christian Heritage Board of Directors, and the Oral Health Progress and Equity Network, for whom she is a state representative.
Looking toward the future, Ms. Beatty sees herself continuing to uphold her current roles. She hopes to further her experience as a consultant and complete more oral advocacy work, perhaps on a federal level. She additionally plans on being more active with presentations to remain involved and engaged in her work. Outside of her primary ventures, Ms. Beatty enjoys going for walks, listening to music, and spending time with her granddaughter.
