Dr. John P. Harris, Director of Corporate Headquarters at IBM, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in mechanical engineering.
Having accrued more than 60 years of inimitable experience in the field of engineering, Dr. Harris is renowned in his industry, holding patents for magnetic recording technology and electric motor brushes. Upon receiving a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1954 and Doctor of Philosophy in 1965 through an IBM Fellowship, both from the University of Michigan, he spearheaded his career as a researcher at the Engineering Research Institute in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Today, Dr. Harris is a prolific writer of articles to professional publications and of, “Vibrational Modes of Bifilar Cantilever Beam” from 1966. He remains a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, serving in roles from treasurer to president of his local chapter, the Stamford Yacht Club, the Michigan Alumni Club, and Sigma Xi.
Today, Dr. Harris notably serves as the director of corporate headquarters at IBM in Armonk, New York, a role he has excelled in since 1983. The engineer has been with IBM since 1954 serving in various roles including engineer on mass storage systems and instrumentation in Poughkeepsie, New York, researcher of optical technologies in Yorktown, New York, high-density semiconductor designer in East Fishkill, New York, and mass storage engineering manager in Boulder, Colorado. Progressing with the company and industry, in 1975, he served as a mass storage system consultant in Mainz, Germany. He went on to serve as a technical manager of the general products division in Tucson, Arizona from 1977 to 1979 and as director of assurance in the general products division in San Jose, California from 1980 to 1982. To attest to his legacy, Dr. Harris can also be found in the 21st edition of Who’s Who in the East.
