Paul C. Friday, PhD, Emeritus Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership.

During Dr. Friday’s time at the University of Stockholm, he enrolled in a class on sociology and deviant behavior. Though he initially intended to study religion, he quickly decided to change his path after unearthing his passion for criminology. In 1964, Dr. Friday graduated from Drew University with a Bachelor of Arts before going on to earn a Master’s from the University of Wisconsin. He remained there for several more years, earning a PhD in 1970. That year, he began his career as an assistant professor of criminal justice at Ohio State University. In the years that followed, he brought his skills to Western Michigan University, taking on titles such as associate professor, assistant dean, and director of criminal justice. In 1992, Dr. Friday relocated to the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, becoming a professor and the department chair of criminal justice. He remained there until he retired in 2016, earning the title of emeritus professor of criminology and criminal justice that year in recognition of his hard work.

In light of his accomplishments, Dr. Friday has been abundantly awarded throughout his career. In 1974, he earned the Distinguished Teaching Award from Western Michigan University, which was followed up by the Distinguished Scholar Award and the Teacher of the Year Award, both from the Southern Criminal Justice Association in 1985 and 1993, respectively. Later, in 2002, Dr. Friday was presented with the Award for Outstanding Contributions to Chinese Research by China from the Society for Research in Juvenile Delinquency in Beijing, China. Most recently, in 2016, he earned the Volunteer of the Year Award from the Substance Abuse Prevention Services in Charlotte, North Carolina. As a further testament to his success, Dr. Friday is featured in numerous editions of Who’s Who Among Executives and Professionals, Who’s Who in North America, Who’s Who in the Southwest, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who Among Sociologists on American Campuses, and Who’s Who in the Midwest.
