Upon getting her taxes done by an industry professional, Ms. Tharp decided to go to H&R Block in order to learn to do her taxes herself. As she had more friends approach her to help with their taxes, she spearheaded her practice as a tax preparer. Since 1994, Ms. Tharp has excelled as the CEO, president, owner, and tax specialist of JRTharp Tax Services LLC located in Columbus, Ohio. At her practice, she specializes in the preparation of tax returns for individuals and businesses, as well as additional services in bookkeeping and payroll. Notably, Ms. Tharp also offers business consultations for new businesses and financial consultations for businesses and individuals.

Prior to her endeavors in tax preparation, Ms. Tharp served as the financial officer and editor of the American Bowler from 2007 to 2013, which went on to become the largest print bowling newspaper in the country. From 2007 to 2010, she was a regulatory specialist at Verizon, as well as a regulatory coordinator and specialist for TEKsystems. Earlier in her career, Ms. Tharp was the owner of Orderly Manor Cleaning Services from 1989 to 2004. Looking back on her career trajectory, the financial professional attributes her success to her perseverance and the drive to achieve as much as possible. Ms. Tharp is a firm believer that she still has great success to look forward to in the coming years. In five years’ time, she hopes to expand her business services and take on a larger number of clients.

Ms. Tharp achieved an Associate of Applied Science degree in business data processing from Columbus State Community College in 1982. Prior to this achievement, she also obtained an Associate of Applied Science in veterinary technology from Columbus State Community College in 1979 and a Bachelor of Science in animal science from the Ohio State University in 1976. Today, Ms. Tharp maintains member affiliation with the National Association of Tax Preparers. An avid bowler, she also holds membership with the United States Bowling Congress and Central Women Ohio Bowling Association. Additionally, Ms. Tharp is a leader with the Girls Scouts and is a National Honor Society Merit Scholar. The advice that she passes on to up and coming entrepreneurs is to examine your market, see if it is possible to become an LLC, and choose a name that is relevant to your business endeavor.
