With a knack for business, Ms. Brothers’ husband opened her eyes to real estate, which she considers a wonderful and rewarding industry. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics and Asian studies from Boston College in 1992. She then received an International Master of Business Administration in marketing from The Barney Business School and the University of Hartford in 1993. She is currently working towards a graduate certificate from the Schack School of Real Estate from New York University. Upon completion of her degrees, Ms. Brother became a licensed real estate broker in the states of New York and New Jersey. She is also has a Certified Negotiation Expert Designation from REBNY from 2014 and a certificate in entrepreneurship from Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses in 2017. Additionally, in 2016, she earned an NYC HPD M/WBE Affordable Housing Developers Capacity Certification Series and a certificate from the NYC SBS NYC Construction Mentorship Course.
The highlight of Ms. Brothers’ career was starting her own company and not having any worries, as a friend told her at the time, “You do not have a known name, so if it does not work out, it will be okay.” Since 2013, she has been the broker of record and chief executive officer of Manhattan Boutique Real Estate Inc. and since 2019, she has been the president of Smart NY Solutions, Inc. Ms. Brothers attributes her success to a great family, as well as wonderful friends and clients who have supported her along the way. She began her career as an Asian trade representative assistant for the Trade Development Unit of the Massachusetts Port Authority from 1991 to 1992. She then became a formal corporate training expert for negotiation skills training at the Steel Trading Division of Mitsui & Co. from 1993 to 1996. From there, Ms. Brothers joined Barkin & Associates as a salesperson and then an associate broker between 1996 and 2006. In 2006, she became the broker of record and president of Interactive Development Associates LLC, remaining until 2014.
Looking toward the future, Ms. Brothers plans to continue working in business, real estate and international interactions, as well as entering the space of communications using digital solutions. In addition to her real estate career, Ms. Brothers is the co-author of “Women in Business: Leading the Way,” published in 2020, and “Asia in Connecticut: A Catalogue of Asian Resources in Connecticut and Environs,” published in 1996. She is also the author of “Within Your Grasp: How to Enter the Japanese Market,” published in 1991. As a testament to her success, Ms. Brothers has been named Best for NYC Program for Manhattan Boutique Real Estate since 2016 and was the recipient of the Best of Manhattan Award from the Manhattan Award Program for Manhattan Boutique Real Estate in 2019 and 2020. She has been inducted as a member of various esteemed organizations, including the Real Estate Board of New York, Sutton Area Community and the National Society of Colonial Dames of America to name a few. She is also listed in the 26th edition of Who’s Who in the East.
