James W. Rane, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Great Southern Wood Preserving, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership.
In 1968, Mr. Rane earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Auburn University. Later, in 1971, he furthered his education once more by acquiring a Juris Doctor from the Samford University Cumberland School of Law. After the unfortunate passing of his father-in-law, Mr. Rane inherited the family business, Great Southern Wood Preserving. He initially intended to sell it and pursue a career in law, though he was not receiving any worthy offers. He decided to keep it and work as both the owner and a lawyer for as long as he could. From 1971 until 1986, Mr. Rane excelled in private practice as an attorney. Today, he continues to uphold the role of president and chief executive officer at Great Southern Wood Preserving.
Outside of his primary endeavors, Mr. Rane has excelled as the president and founder of the Jimmy Rane Foundation for College Scholarships since 2000. He additionally continues to excel as a board trustee at Auburn University. Further, Mr. Rane is a published author. He has written two books about his father, both of which have sold a n impressive number of copies. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Alabama Bar Association, and the American Wood Protection Association.
In 2019, Mr. Rane was presented with the Newcomen Society of Alabama Award from the Newcomen Society of Alabama. He previously earned the Johnny Stallings Award, was named the Distinguished American Sportsman by the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, and was listed among the “Power & Influence 50” by the Yellowhammer News. Reflecting on his success, Mr. Rane credits his luck in being at the right place at the right time. He has always valued the act of finishing a task, as well as the importance of working with great people and being honest. Looking toward the future, he hopes to continue working with his business.
