Title: Retired Insurance Executive
Location: Farmington, Connecticut, United States
Christian T. Paul, Retired Insurance Executive, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in insurance.
Upon earning a Bachelor of Science in industrial administration and engineering from Yale University in 1948, Mr. Paul commenced his professional career with the International Silver Company. He quickly found he did not enjoy the work and his uncle helped him join the group insurance industry due to its infancy. Since then, Mr. Paul built a distinguished career with the Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford, Connecticut, Kansas City, Missouri, and Cincinnati, Ohio over the course of 40 years. Prior to his retirement, he most recently served out of the Hartford, Connecticut location as senior vice president from 1985 to 1988. In addition, he was vice president from 1971 to 1985 and second vice president from 1968 to 1971.
In addition to his primary roles, Mr. Paul was a past chairman of the board of directors for the Center for Corporate Health Promotion in Reston, Virginia. He also served on the board of director for Resource Information Management Systems, Inc. in Oakbrook, Illinois, and Constitution State Service Co. in Hartford, Connecticut. Today, Mr. Paul maintains affiliation with the Life Insurance Marketing Research Association and Health Insurance Association of America. Notably, from 1943 to 1945, he served as a naval aviation cadet with the U.S. Navy before spearheading his career in the insurance industry.
Looking back on his illustrious career, Mr. Paul’s most memorable case was with Western Electric, which ended up being $15 million. With the case, he had to be able to sit down with the top people, understand, listen intently, and use people and social skills, as well as know the business and product. Mr. Paul attributes his years of success to his work ethic, as he said, “The harder he worked the luckier he got.” A salesperson wrote the phrase at the bottom of one of his memos and Mr. Paul has since adopted that as his mantra. Additionally, he believes all success comes from a little bit of luck and confidence in your work. In his spare time, Mr. Paul enjoys woodworking and playing golf and tennis. To attest to his legacy, Mr. Paul can also be found in the 25th through 27th editions of Who’s Who In Finance and Industry, the 46th through 50th editions of Who’s Who in America, and the 14th edition of Who’s Who in the World.
