Upon his retirement, Mr. Montgomery and his wife, Brenda, quickly became bored by their newfound free time. Thinking of ways to keep busy, the pair remembered they had always intended to purchase a piece of property in Belize to build a retirement home to share with their family and friends. However, the idea soon grew into a resort and since 2019, Mr. Montgomery has served as the owner and general manager of Sirenian Bay Resort & Villas in Belize. Located in the Placencia Peninsula, Sirenian Bay Resort & Villas is an intimate, boutique resort dedicated to luxury, relaxation and adventure. Featuring a miniature golf course, pool, Inky’s 19th Hole Restaurant and Siren’s Spa, the resort specializes in curating memorable and unique vacation experiences.
Mr. Montgomery attributes the success of his hospitality endeavor to the way he treats people, including his employees. He is a firm believer that happy employees make happy guests, which is why he has focused on recruiting and training the right candidates. In addition to his happy workforce, Mr. Montgomery is proud of the quick one and a half year construction process it took to build Sirenian Bay Resort & Villas. In five years’ time, he hopes to get back into his retirement and transition the resort into the hands of one of his children. When he is not busy running the resort, Mr. Montgomery takes the time to sponsor soccer teams, kids’ events and school supplies.
Mr. Montgomery holds an Associate of Arts in electronics from Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, Mississippi from 1985. Notably, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the institution in 2020. After working in healthcare technology management for several years, he spearheaded his own medical equipment repair company, Crest Services. Building the company from the ground up with his wife, the business went on to be a leader in the industry across the region. Mr. Montgomery’s advice to anyone venturing into owning a business is to constantly think outside of the box and do not limit yourself. He credits this mentality for his successes in his medical equipment repair company and in his luxury resort endeavors.
