Fred F. Gonzalez, NREMTP, Firefighter and Paramedic at Estero Fire Rescue, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in public service.
Mr. Gonzalez joined the U.S Army two weeks after graduating from high school. He enlisted as a combat engineer, which dealt with minefield clearing and extensive explosives training. While in the Army, he went on one combat tour in Iraq, where he saw war injuries from soldiers and civilians. He wanted to help them but had no medical training at the time. After coming back from his service, he made a conscious decision that he wanted to help people and began paramedic school, EMT school and firefighter school. Since 1994, he has been a firefighter and paramedic with Estero Fire Rescue, as well as an EMT, paramedic and firefighting educator since 2012. In his work today, Mr. Gonzales treats everyone with the notion that they are a family member, which has led to him never receiving a negative comment or complaint.
Mr. Gonzalez’s career highlight was his time in the military, including his time in combat. He has also been proud of his firefighting and paramedic work, where he has had the ability to be able to save many lives. He attributes his success to his willingness to never giving up, his ability to help others and never saying, “I can’t.” In every person he has mentored, he has instilled in them to never say that they cannot do something, but rather to put their mind to it and achieve their goal. As a testament to his success, Mr. Gonzalez has received five Life Saving Phoenix Awards and Recognition for 20 Years of Continuous Service Certification from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. From his military service, he holds two Army Commendation Medals for Meritorious Service, a Good Conduct Medal and three Army Achievement Medals.
