Lonny Gordon, CEO and Founder at GORDONDANCE and Gordon Ranch, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in dance and the performing arts.
Mr. Gordon is an educator, performer and international dance and theatre arts ambassador celebrating decades of teaching and choreography with companies across the world. His passion for creative movement began at the University of Texas. After a member of his fraternity signed him up for the school’s cheerleading program, Mr. Gordon took a modern dance class to fulfill the cheer team’s prerequisites. To his surprise, he not only excelled in the class but also fell in love with the art form, completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1965. He holds a Master of Fine Arts in painting and choreography from the University of Wisconsin and was awarded a Doctor of Fine Arts in classical Japanese dance from the Nishikawa School in Tokyo, Japan. He went on to complete an apprenticeship at the Grand Kabuki Theater of Japan and fellowships to study Noh and Bugaku theatre.
Throughout his 40-year career, Mr. Gordon has been an artist in residence, lecturer and consultant for more than 200 international dance companies and schools. The CEO and founder of GORDONDANCE since 1968, he is a regular cultural contributor to the Korean Times and the Asahi Evening News, as well as specialized dance publications including the Japan Modern Dance Quarterly. Notably, he is the founder of the Kinetic Art Theater in Tokyo, having also choreographed works for Radiance and the Kanopy Dance Company, among others. Since 2011, Mr. Gordon has focused on his work as the CEO of Gordon Ranch, a historic working property in the Rio Grande Valley, and on his visual arts practice, showing works in water media and mixed media collage. A Fulbright-Hays fellow, he has previously been a dean and fine arts outreach professor at Illinois State University, a professor at the University of Wisconsin and chair of the Department of Dance and director of development for the University of Nevada Performing Arts Center. To attest to his legacy, Mr. Gordon has been included in more than one dozen prior volumes of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Entertainment and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
