Alex Gomez, President and Founder at Tijuana’s Bar and Grill, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in food and beverage entrepreneurship.
Mr. Gomez is an entrepreneur and restaurateur with close to three decades of leadership in food and beverage management and international franchising. As a teen in his native Puerto Rico, Mr. Gomez watched his brother work restaurant jobs to help support their mother, and he soon followed in his path, working at a Chart House steakhouse location in Puerto Rico. In the late 1990s, Mr. Gomez’ family relocated to California, where his mother opened De La Puerto Rico, a family-style Cuban restaurant that quickly became a local favorite.
After moving to California, Mr. Gomez continued to work for Chart House, transferring to a location in San Diego, further refining his restaurant management experience. Climbing the ladder at a major fine dining chain while watching his mother’s business thrive encouraged Mr. Gomez’ dream of opening his own eatery someday. He studied business administration at American University, earning an Associate of Arts in 2002, and returned to Puerto Rico the following year armed with nearly 20 years of success in fine dining and business management, and a taste for the regional Mexican food he had grown to love while living in Southern California.
Mr. Gomez opened the first Tijuana’s Bar and Grill location in 2003 in Old San Juan, inspired by his love for authentic Mexican cuisine. Since then, Tijuana’s Bar and Grill has expanded to seven locations in Puerto Rico, with franchising opportunities for a related quick-serve concept and a line of branded snack foods and drink mixes currently in development. Mr. Gomez has been featured on the cover of SBA Magazine and was named 2018 Business Person of the Year for his success in Tijuana’s Bar and Grill’s expansion. He advises those curious about the restaurant industry to do their research and find the right area for their idea before opening, and attributes much of his success to hard work, business savvy, and treating his customers and employees like family.
