Paul J. Nutting, Retired City Manager at the City of Springfield, Tennessee, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in municipal government.

Mr. Nutting is a retired public servant and city official celebrating more than 40 years of service to local governments and communities in the American South. At his core, Mr. Nutting always wanted a career that allowed him to make a positive impact on the daily lives of others, which drew him to public service as soon as he discovered the field. A graduate of the State University of New York system, he holds a Bachelor of Arts in social science and earned his Master of Public Health in 1977.

After his graduation, Mr. Nutting’s first professional role was as an administrative assistant for the city of League City, Texas, where he fell in love with city management and municipal administration. He remained with the government of League City for more than 15 years, rising to assistant city administrator by 1981 and serving as executive assistant to the mayor before being appointed a city administrator in 1982. Mr. Nutting left League City in 1995 to become the city manager of Springfield, Tennessee, where he developed a reputation for building strong public partnerships, spearheading community revitalization projects and a major library funding initiative. Likewise, he was known as a warm and active presence in the local community.

While acting as the city manager of Springfield, Tennessee, Mr. Nutting held leadership roles in the Tennessee Energy Acquisition Corporation, the Regional Transportation Authority and the Five Rivers Resource Conservation and Development Council. Additionally, he sat on the executive boards of the Nashville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Tennessee Municipal League. Mr. Nutting remains the director of the Robertson County Historical Society and the Stokes Brown Public Library and continues his lifelong involvement with local charitable organizations such as the United Way and the Rotary Club in his retirement. In recognition of his decades of excellence in leadership, Mr. Nutting has been included in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest and Who’s Who in the World.
