Joseph F. Griffies, Director of Veteran Affairs at WIBG 1020 AM, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in veteran advocacy.

A proud Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Griffies has devoted his professional career to advocating for the proper treatment and respect of veterans since his discharge in 1969. Since 2012, he has served as the director of veteran affairs at WIBG 1020 AM, where he interviews veterans and promotes their service and value to his listeners as host of the Welcome Home Veterans Show. Through his impact, Mr. Griffies was responsible for the renaming of the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Hospital to the Michael J. Crescenz Veterans Affairs Medical Hospital and granting free beach access for all veterans in New Jersey. Mr. Griffies felt compelled to focus on veteran advocacy after a judge asked him to remove his veteran hat in court, which greatly insulted him. He refused and told the judge that if he wanted him to remove his hat he had to remove his robe. Mr. Griffies vowed to never take such disrespect for being a Vietnam veteran again and has utilized this experience to propel forward in his radio show and writing.

Renowned for his career success, Mr. Griffies was the recipient of the Chapel of Four Chaplains Award in 2018 and 2019. Likewise, he has been named to Veterans of Influence in Our Community in the Philadelphia Business Journal three times. He attributes his success to his parents and his wife, Colleen, who grew up in a military family. Presently, Mr. Griffies maintains affiliation with the Veterans of Foreign War, Jewish Veterans Organization and American Legion. He also sits on the executive board for J Dog Franchises. Looking ahead in his career trajectory, he hopes to continue making a positive and helpful influence on society, along with promoting the greatness in the United States. He believes that “we” are patriotic in this country, which is what makes it the greatest country in the world. Prior to his current role, Mr. Griffies worked in sales at Brooks Provisions, a food distribution, for 25 years. While in the food industry, he served in various capacities including meat cutter and supervisor, as well as on the business side of operations. He is backed by studies in food marketing from St. Joseph’s University.
