John Frank, Co-Founder, President and Artistic Director at Evanston 2nd Act Players, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in theater and journalism.
After a successful 40-year career in journalism, Mr. Frank has reinvented himself as a live theater owner and dramatist, writing and producing five of his own plays in five years, as well as producing, directing and acting in scores of other plays. Notably, one of his plays made it to a weekend of staged readings in New York City. Since 2013, Mr. Frank has been the co-founder, president and artistic director of Evanston 2nd Act Players, as well as the founder and editorial director of The No Salt No Fat No Sugar Journal since 2012. Despite the halt COVID-19 has put on theater production, he is proud to guide his fellow actors through putting on online shows. He attributes his profound success to never losing sight of his goals. Outside of his primary roles, Mr. Frank is a member of the Hearts Association and Mended Hearts, having helped lead Mended Hearts to be awarded Regional Chapter of the Year and Midwest Chapter of the Year.
Finding a passion for reporting through his high school newspaper, Mr. Frank received a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and political science from Marquette University in 1975. He then went on to achieve a Master of Science in journalism from Northwestern University in 1976. In the earlier years of his career, between 1979 and 1998, Mr. Frank served in reporting and editor roles for the Daily Herald, U.S. League of Savings Associations, Reuters, Business Week, Chicago Mercantile Exchange, National Provisioner and Thomson Media. After serving in his first editor-in-chief role for a beverage industry magazine in the 1990s, he went on to find success in the same role for Collections & Credit Risk Magazine in the 2000s. From there, Mr. Frank had also been the editorial director for the American Marketing Association, BNP Magazine and PL Buyer Magazine, as well as Midwest bureau chief for PRWeek, a writer for WOMMA, category manager for Mintel International and editor for Modern Healthcare. More recently, he was a mentor at the Medill School of Journalism in 2014 and 2015.
