With more than two decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Smith currently excels as the chief creative officer at Yamamoto. In this position, he manages a group of talented professionals within the company’s Minneapolis and Chicago offices. Mr. Smith has been updating Yamamoto’s creative process, increasing the collaboration and production of high impact creative work. With this sentiment, he is growing the agency and collaborating with other MDC shops to boost their creative offering. He has also been helping their newest clients find voices that are relevant to the moment. Additionally, Mr. Smith contributes as a freelance writer and the creative director for Grant Smith’s Comfy Chair.

Prior to these appointments, Mr. Smith contributed as a writer and a creative director for several companies including McCann New York, BBDO and Handsome Advertising. At the start of his career, he worked as a copywriter for Cliff Freeman & Partners from 1999 to 2004 and was a vocational program coordinator in Texas. A graduate of Southwestern University, Mr. Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and fine art in 1990. Shortly thereafter, he secured a Master of Fine Arts in fine and studio arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1996. Two years later, he received a certificate in creative advertising and copywriting from the Miami Ad School in 1998. In an effort to remain knowledgeable in the field, Mr. Smith maintains a membership with the Club for Creativity and Excellence.
