Hormuzd Y. Rassam, Engineering and Business Educator at the Colorado School of Mines and Highland University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in engineering.
In his youth in Iraq, Dr. Rassam consistently scored perfectly in geometry, which in the Arabic language also means engineering. Due to his aptitude for the subject, he went on to receive a Bachelor of Science from the College of Engineering and worked for the Iraq Petroleum Company from 1955 to 1958. Desiring to take his skills and expand his knowledge overseas, Dr. Rassam arrived in the United States in 1958. Furthering his studies, he achieved a Master of Science in Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1960 and a Doctor of Philosophy from Colorado State University in 1969. He also conducted postdoctoral studies in scientific advancement at Stanford University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of California, Los Angeles and the University of Denver.
In the earlier years of spearheading his career, Dr. Rassam was a faculty member at Fort Lewis College and a research and faculty assistant at Colorado State University throughout the duration of the 1960s. From there, he was a master planner of two school districts with Colwan College at Farmington and head of business at San Juan College in 1972. Today, Dr. Rassam flourishes in his roles as the head of the business program and professor at Highland University and professor of engineering at the Colorado School of Mines. Additionally, he is the retired president of a consulting, architectural, engineering and planning firm, in which he specialized in government buildings and banks. With this sentiment, he has been a consultant for nearly 50 years.
Reflecting on his illustrious career, Dr. Rassam is honored to have earned numerous accolades, including the Iraq Lectorium Company Award for Student Excelling and various honor society feats. He is also proud to have become a licensed contractor and real estate broker, offering him vast opportunities to fulfill his professional dreams. A life fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Dr. Rassam also holds life membership with the National Society of Professional Engineers, Knights of the Columbus and Elks Club. In addition, he is affiliated with the American Society of Engineering Education, Delta Mu Delta Business Society, University of Michigan Alumni Association, Colorado State University Alumni Association and his local Chamber of Commerce.
