Thomas B. Willis, Operations Specialist at Mid-America Conversion Services, Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in engineering.
Hailing from a family of U.S. Navy veterans, Mr. Willis went on to follow the family legacy and served as a First Class Petty Officer with the U.S. Navy for 11 years. From working in the nuclear power program, he conducted some commercial reactor work upon his exit from the military, finding it to be a cross between nuclear and environmental work. Backed by an Associate of Applied Science in civil engineering technology from Tidewater Community College from 1997, this exposure eventually led him to the environmental cleanup part of the field. From 2015 to 2017, Mr. Willis was a conduct of operations specialist with BWXT Conversion Services, LLC. Since 2017, he has excelled as an operations specialist for Mid-America Conversion Services, LLC.
Notably, Mr. Willis was named a Designated Master Trainer Specialist by the Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit in Connecticut. However, he recalls the highlight of his career was doing two tours on the USS Virginia. On his first tour, they went to the shipyards and changed filters that were never before changed on the nuclear power ships. Mr. Willis had to write the procedure and design for it, which he ended up doing five times successfully. On his second tour, his procedure and hand drawings were placed in the reactive plant manual. He attributes his success to dedication and integrity. Presently, Mr. Willis maintains affiliation with Veterans of Foreign Wars. In five years’ time, he aims to be an operations manager or project manager in his town of Paducah, Kentucky.
