Matthew D. Dukes II, Mayor at the Midwest City Council, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in public service.
After serving as a police officer in Midwest City, Oklahoma for 31 fruitful years, Mr. Dukes decided to run for mayor of the city. In light of his servitude to his community as an officer of the law, he was elected as the mayor of the Midwest City Council in 2016, where he remains today. Beginning in 2021, he will also serve as an adjunct professor of law enforcement at Rose State Community College. He attributes his success to his belief in and reliance upon God, as well as having several mentors in his life who have guided him toward success. Although his career has been filled with highlights, he is especially proud of doing large capital improvement projects. In 2018, he and his team put together a package of $53 million worth of projects, which was eventually approved with the aid of civic groups and organizations, the fire department and the police union.
During his tenure with the police department, Mr. Dukes delved into higher education and attended Ashford University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in emergency management in 2013. Two years later, he received a Master of Public Administration from the aforementioned university in 2015. Civically involved as well, he is active with Rotary International and has sat as chairman of the Midwest City Alliance Hospital Board of Trustees. Earlier in his career, Mr. Dukes served for five years with the United States Coast Guard, and most notably, was affiliated with the Oklahoma Air National Guard for 25 years, in which he traveled extensively across the United States. As a testament to his success, he received several accolades and honors, including two Lifesaving Awards during his time as a police officer. He also earned a Meritorious Service Award and Aerial Achievement Medal. Looking toward the future, Mr. Dukes intends to ease into a well-deserved retirement while also giving back to his community, church and family.
