Drawing upon nearly 30 years of experience in engineering and technology, Mr. Olson has excelled as the president of Westlake Science & Technology, Inc. since 2016. Westlake Science & Technology is a scientific and engineering consultancy that focuses its attention on products in the realms of sustainability, product stewardship, environmental compliance and advocacy. In his role as president, he has assumed responsibility for sales performance and marketing opportunities, as well as contributing to the U.S. Toxic Substances Control Act reform and the Ohio House Bill 512, which established the State of Ohio as the leading state for reducing exposure from lead in drinking water.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Olson served several science corporations, including Ferro Corporation as director of technology, director of technology and product stewardship, and corporate director of product stewardship, through which he developed the company’s global product stewardship organization. Likewise, he was a senior business manager for resins and compounds for The Geon Company and maintained employment with the BFGoodrich Chemical Company and Pratt & Whitney. To prepare for his career, Mr. Olson earned a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from Tufts University in 1972 and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Connecticut in 1975. Earning a professional engineering license in Connecticut at that time, he now holds a current license in engineering in the State of Ohio. Over the years, he has served as president of the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers and the chairman of the Ohio State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors.
To remain abreast of developments in the field, Mr. Olson has served as a member of the Charter Review Commission for the City of Westlake, Ohio, as well as the National Society of Professional Engineers, the National Academy of Forensic Engineers, the American Chemical Society, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the American Water Works Association. As a testament to his success, he was provided with a Scientist of the Year Award and the Arrow Award, which is the highest employee recognition accolades.
