Michael-Angelo James, EdD, Mayor of Waycross, Georgia, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in government.
Dr. James became involved in his profession because of the lasting influence of people in his life when he was younger. He was greatly influenced by people such as his parents, who were very keen on him and encouraged him to pursue what he wanted to do. His mother was also an English teacher and instilled in him such skills as speaking calmly and talking things through. In addition, his pastor, Father Michael, was also instrumental in his decision life’s decisions. Through this, he found his love of words. Since 2019, he has dedicated his talents as the Mayor of Waycross, Georgia.
In addition to serving as mayor, Dr. James is a professor of sociology and job acquisition skills at Coastal Pines Technical College. He has served in this role since 2018. He is also a Nuppe with Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. and a Chancellor of Emmanuel’s Bible College. Since 1990, he has been a Bishop at Emmanuel’s International Cathedral. Earlier in his career, he served as the Vice President of the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia State, as a Social Studies and history teacher, and assistant principal of Ware County High and Waycross High School. From 1982 to 1992, he worked as the President of the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia 11th District Youth Convention.
In his own academic pursuits, Dr. James first earned a Bachelor of Science in education from Troy University in 1988. He then received a Med in secondary education and teaching from Valdosta State University in 1993, and earned a PhD in education from Truth Bible College in 1999. As a testament to the quality of work he has provided throughout his career, he has been recognized in a number of ways. He received the Jack Williams Community Service Award from Waycross Chamber of Commerce and in 2020, the Distinguished Toastmaster Award. A year earlier, Dr. James was highlighted with the Distinguished Kiwanian Award from the Kiwanis Club of Waycross. Between 2015 and 2017, he received the Ted Harris Human and Spiritual Values Award from the Kiwanis Club, and in 2011, the Partnership Courage Collaboration and Leadership Award from Hilton Hill. Furthermore, Dr. James has been recognized as the Georgia Man of the Year.
