Tom R. Ragland III, First Selectman (Mayor) at Town of Greenwich, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in politics and art.
Having accrued more than 30 years of professional expertise, Mr. Ragland notably served as the mayor of Greenwich, Connecticut, from 1995 to 1999. Previously, he was asked to serve on the Greenwich Planning and Zoning Commission, the Selectman’s Committee on Parking and Traffic and the Town of Greenwich Republican Round Table, to name a few. In these roles, he managed general administration on behalf of the city, was in charge of 2,000 employees and led efforts in paving and patching 600 miles of road. Mr. Ragland also devoted himself as a community advocate by serving as the chairperson of the board of the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce and as a board member of the Greenwich Emergency Medical Service.
In the earliest stages of his career, Mr. Ragland served in the U.S. Air Force as an airman second class for five years until 1960. Never more thrilled than when he first grasped the flight stick of a jet airplane, he is most proud of this exciting and pivotal period of his professional journey. Upon his return from the military, Mr. Ragland went on to attain a Bachelor of Architecture in planning from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1964 and a Master of Science in architecture, hospital planning and design from the Columbia Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation in 1965.
Following the conclusion of his education, Mr. Ragland worked as an architect for Skidmore, Ownings and Merrill, Architects and Planners in New York from 1965 to 1971. He went on to serve as the founding partner and vice president of The Ehrenkrantz Group in New York from 1971 to 1981, as well as the owner of the Image Center from 1981 to 1993. Ultimately, Mr. Ragland found his niche in politics. Having retired, he enjoys such diversions as playing golf and reaping the fruits of his success at his Florida residence. He is currently a member of the Milbrook Club, the Horseneck Club of Greenwich, the Greenwich Republican Roundtable, the Harpoon Club and the Quail Valley Golf & River Club.
