Terry Wilson, Supervisor at Lumpkin Development and Retired Police Officer at Calera Police Department, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in law enforcement.
Upon earning an associate’s degree in criminal justice in 1985, Mr. Wilson went on to commence his professional career as a police officer. Noticing there were no minorities in the police force, he was initially discouraged by family and friends from applying due to its inequity. However, he made it his mission to stop by the station and speak to the sheriff frequently until a part-time position opened, as joining the force was his lifelong goal. Mr. Wilson subsequently worked part-time for more than a year before becoming a full-time police officer with the Calera Police Department in Calera, Alabama.
Mr. Wilson excelled as a police officer for more than 25 years before commencing his retirement from the force. Possessed of a strong desire to help others, he has long stressed the importance of treating people with respect. Reflecting on his years of service, he is most proud to have saved a person’s life, an encounter which earned him a Purple Ribbon at a formal ceremony for his heroic efforts. Additionally, in the 1990s, Mr. Wilson worked at an Alabama jail where the inmates did not wear uniforms. With his leadership, he was able to implement rules and acquire uniforms by the time he left the facility in 2000.
Presently, Mr. Wilson works as a supervisor at Lumpkin Development, where he supervises two departments in trucks and pressure washing. Alongside his primary position, he remains dedicated to serving the community to the best of his ability as a spokesperson. Recently, he was able to acquire a grant toward constructing a storm shelter in his rural community, a project that was three years in the making. Mr. Wilson aspires to celebrate this accomplishment with the Governor of Alabama at its formal opening ceremony in the near future. Looking toward the future, he hopes to continue offering his expertise and knowledge as a mentor or consultant.
