Jay Tolsma, Senior Partner at ELO CPAs & Advisors, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in financial management.
With a lifelong passion for accounting, Mr. Tolsma has dedicated his career to providing consulting and advisory services to each of his clients. After initially obtaining a Bachelor of Business Administration from Northwestern College in 1984, he began his career as an auditor with the South Dakota Department of Legislative Audit. In 1986, he established himself as a partner with ELO CPAs & Advisors – a position he would maintain for nearly 30 years. From 2016 to 2020, he excelled as a managing partner before being promoted as a senior partner in 2020. As a senior partner, Mr. Tolsma provides technical and quality support to the entire firm while providing each client with a broad spectrum of services in a host of different industries.
Specializing in assurance services, peer review, business planning, reporting and taxation, as well as financial reporting systems design and review, Mr. Tolsma provides services to the state and local government, nonprofit and manufacturing industries. Over the course of his career, he is gratified to have helped hundreds of business owners reach their goals. In addition to his professional career, Mr. Tolsma is honored to serve as the chairman of the finance committee at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital, a board member of the Christian Education Association and the assistant boys’ basketball coach at Mitchell Christian School. Since 1998, he has applied his passion for coaching in order to help his clients and colleagues in becoming better versions of themselves.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Tolsma has maintained his affiliations with the South Dakota Board of Accountancy, the South Dakota CPA Society, and the National Association of State Board of Accountancy. For his achievements in the field, he is proud to have been presented with the Distinguished Service Award from the South Dakota Board of Accountancy in 2013. Additionally, he was recognized as an Outstanding Committee Chair by the South Dakota CPA Society. He attributes his success to the support of his mentors, his family and his coworkers. Looking toward the future, Mr. Tolsma’s goal is to continue applying his experience in an effort to leave a positive impact within his community and the State of South Dakota.
