With a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from the University of Iowa in 1989, a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1993 and a Master of Business Administration at Arizona State University, Dr. Monk currently excels as the vice president and general manager of the motion sensor product line at NXP Semiconductors, a post he has held since 2015. He previously worked as the director of research and development at MEMS Engineering from 2011 to 2015, as an automotive sensor product manager from 2006 to 2011 and as a research and development manager and director at MEMS Engineering from 2001 to 2006. Dr. Monk was a pressure sensor development program manager and a package development engineer for Motorola, among numerous further posts in his field.
In addition to his primary professional pursuits, Dr. Monk has been affiliated with the International Conference on Solid-State Sensors, Actuators and Microsystems in numerous roles over several decades. He has also contributed multiples articles to professional journals and chapters to books and has served in leadership positions with the Transducers Research Foundation and the MEMS and Sensor Industry Group Governing Council. Dr. Monk holds numerous patents and has been recognized with myriad awards for his accomplishments in the field, including being named a senior member of the IEEE in 2019. A member of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, the Materials Research Society, the International Society of Hybrid Microelectronics, and the Electrochemical Society, Dr. Monk enjoys running, sports, music, and theater in his spare time.
