David P. Marthey, Owner and Operator at Big Dave’s Custom Surveying & Design, a P&M Bear Global LLC Company, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in agricultural services.
Mr. Marthey is an entrepreneur and expert in agricultural support services celebrating more than four decades of success in the industry. The oldest of five children born into a financially- struggling Ohio farming family, Mr. Marthey quickly learned the importance of independence and developing a diverse skill set. He graduated from Transylvania University in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts in business administration and physical education teaching. He began working in agriculture in 1979 as an employee for Corrugated Draining Tubing. For the next sixteen and a half years, he found success as a branch manager for Spectra-Physics, sparking an interest in the processes and technologies that would later lead him to a career in surveying as well as building his expertise in agricultural sales and marketing.
Currently, Mr. Marthey is the owner and operator of Big Dave’s Custom Surveying & Design. At Big Dave’s Custom Surveying & Design, Mr. Marthey drives a pair of side-by-side diesel-powered rangers that have been wired to support Trimble GPS surveying systems and collects data about the fields surveyed. Later, he creates custom land-leveling plans and field designs for clients based on the data collected so that the owners can level and slope their properties to maximize irrigation efficiency. Among Mr. Marthey’s greatest professional highlights was being hired to design a 600-acre rice research facility for the University of Arkansas based on his technology. He has surveyed properties in ten states and is proud to have been referred to as the Mississippi Delta’s Most Competent Independent Agricultural Land Surveying Service and presented with Distinguished Service and Outstanding Alumni awards from Transylvania University and Kappa Alpha Order, among many other honors.
Outside his work, Mr. Marthey is extremely active in his community, and as a member of The Knights of Columbus a Catholic men’s organization. He is a licensed pilot, longtime member, and three-time chair of the Jonesboro-Arkansas Municipal Airport Commission, as well as a charter and life member of the Twin Cessna Flyer. Mr. Marthey is a third- and fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, where he is active in fundraising initiatives and has chaired the Blessed Sacrament Fall Festival five times. In his free time, Mr. Marthey enjoys golfing, fishing, and travel, and is an accomplished vocalist who has performed at more than 200 weddings and 150 funerals. He is the author of “An Extraordinary Ordinary Man,” a book outline that he hopes to devote more time to fully developing in the coming years. Mr. Marthey attributes his success to the influence of his parents and his wife and hopes to one day be inducted into the Arkansas Agricultural Hall of Fame.
