Peter S. Staats, President at World Institute of Pain, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of pain management.
Drawing on more than two and a half decades of expertise in interventional pain medicine, Dr. Staats has garnered a laudable reputation as the president of the World Institute of Pain since 2020. Holding numerous consultative roles and positions of high leadership at a variety of medical companies and professional organizations, he bears a great deal of expertise in solving medical mysteries and providing indelible leadership in his chosen field. Moreover, Dr. Staats distinguished himself as the original founder of the division of pain medicine at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, for which he served as the chief for almost a decade. Upon receiving this appointment, he was, notably, the first anesthesiologist to receive surgical privileges at the hospital.
Dr. Staats first sought an education at the University of California Santa Barbara, where he attained a Bachelor of Arts in biological sciences and a Bachelor of Science in physiological psychology in 1985. He subsequently earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1989. After undertaking an internship in medicine and surgery at the University of Hawaii from 1989 until 1990, Dr. Staats concluded his academic efforts at Johns Hopkins University, where he conducted a residency and a fellowship in pain medicine. He graduated from the university in 2005 with a Master of Business Administration in health services management.
Outside of his primary career endeavors, Dr. Staats has penned more than 400 articles, abstracts and book chapters on his area of expertise, and has written or co-edited more than 10 books. To commemorate his accomplishments, he has been named among the “Top Doctors” by New Jersey Monthly Magazine since 2007, within the “Guide to America’s Top Physicians” by the Consumers’ Research Council of America since 2003 and with America’s Top Doctors since 2001. Other accolades to his credit include Lifetime Achievement Awards from the American Society of Pain and Neuroscience, the North American Neuromodulation Society, the New York and New Jersey Societies of Interventional Pain Physicians and the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.
