Location: Hilton, South Africa
Michael Cassidy, Founder at African Enterprise, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in politics.
Initially interested in becoming an educator in his native South Africa, Mr. Cassidy had a change of heart upon studying in the United States, having what he describes as a “Damascus road experience.” This epiphany made him switch his focus to alleviating the problems of not only just his home of South Africa but also the entire African continent. As a response, he founded African Enterprise in 1961 and has done extensive political work as its head. Mr. Cassidy has also been chair of the Marriage Alliance of South Africa and honorary chairman of the Lausanne Movement for World Evangelism.
Mr. Cassidy played a key “behind the scenes” role in South Africa’s first Democratic election in 1994. He has addressed a number of influential figures, including British and European parliamentarians, members of the House of Lords, European Commission and NATO officials, and 300 Irish and Northern Irish leaders. Notably, he has been the recipient of a Peacemaker Award from Christians for Peace in Africa in 2009. Reflecting on his illustrious career, Mr. Cassidy attributes his success to his calling to help combat issues that have gripped him and pushed him over the years.
Mr. Cassidy earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in modern and medieval languages from Cambridge University in 1958. Continuing his education, he also attained a Bachelor of Arts in divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California in 1963, as well as an honorary Doctorate from Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, California in 1993. He is the author of the books “Footprints in the African Sand,” “A Witness Forever,” “The Passing Summer” and “Politics of Love.” Looking ahead, he hopes for his nonprofit to continue to develop and serve African social and political causes.
