Brian Lackey, Director of Instruction; Golf Instructor at Golf Club of Tennessee, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in golf coaching.
Mr. Lackey is a ten-time PGA Teacher of the Year and current Director of Instruction at the Golf Club of Tennessee, where he has been helping players of all ages and abilities reach the next level in their game. An athletic child and teen, Mr. Lackey’s interest in golf did not begin until high school when he found himself interested in the challenge of more individual sports. After an internship in sports administration at Brown Acres Golf Course, he completed coursework in sports management at Cleveland State Community College and earned a Bachelor of Science in sports management at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1996. While Mr. Lackey initially hoped to own or manage a golf course, after working as an assistant golf professional at the Council Fire Golf Club and the Wachesaw Plantation Club, he realized how much he enjoyed teaching and trying to “get inside the minds of each player” to find the best way to help them with their techniques. In 1999, Mr. Lackey became the Director of Instruction at the Ridgefields Golf & Athletic Club, departing in 2002 to serve as Director of Instruction for the Palencia Club in St. Augustine, Florida.
For the next seven years, Mr. Lackey was the Head Golf Instructor at the Johnny Warren Golf Academy in Hendersonville, Tennessee. During this time, he continued his own professional and athletic development, completing workshops and training with the PGA, The Golfing Machine, Jim McLean, Stan Utley, and others, and was a runner-up in the 2010 Tennessee Section Championship. In 2010, Mr. Lackey joined The Golf Institute at the Gaylord Springs Golf Links as Lead Golf Instructor, where he continued to work with students until accepting his current position at the Golf Club of Tennessee in 2017. Mr. Lackey is one of the developers of the Pendulum Putting Rod, a patented teaching tool that has been adopted by more than 200 PGA golfers and instructors around the world, and he hopes to work more with the PGA on a national level in the coming years. He credits his success to his faith, his dedication to his students, and his desire to be a role model for his two teenage sons. When not working, Mr. Lackey volunteers for his church community and as a coach for recreational basketball and baseball leagues in his area.
