Diego Cortina de la Fuente, Director of Global Value and Access at Biogen, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in medical administration.
Mr. Cortina de la Fuente has spent more than 15 years in the healthcare industry fueled by a desire to help bridge the gap between patients, doctors, and manufacturers. He studied medicine at Universidad Anáhuac, graduating in 2001, and earned a Master of Science in Health Policy, Planning, and Financing at the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2004. He started his career the same year as the Executive Coordinator for the Mexican Foundation for Health’s LATAM SIDALAC Regional HIV/AIDS Initiative, where he would stay for two years managing public outreach and logistics. Between 2007 and 2008, he was epidemiology and economic evaluation manager for Roche Pharmaceuticals, and from 2009 until 2011, Mr. Cortina de la Fuente worked with Abbott Laboratories, another major drug manufacturer, as their Value Proposition Unit head.
Mr. Cortina de la Fuente joined Bayer Healthcare in 2011 as the Deputy Director of Regional Market Access for Latin America, advancing to become Deputy Director of Global Advocacy from 2013 until his departure in 2016. During this time, Mr. Cortina de la Fuente continued his education, pursuing postgraduate studies in strategic performance management in healthcare throughout 2014. He was recruited to become Market Assess Franchise Lead for Novartis’ Latin American and Canadian operations in 2016, a role he held until accepting his current position as the Director of Global Value and Access for Biogen in 2020.
Crediting his success to his sustained passion for the industry and belief in putting patients first, Mr. Cortina de la Fuente hopes to remain with Biogen for several more years and begin mentoring others in similar positions. He has continued to pursue professional development opportunities wherever possible, completing a Leadership Foundations course in 2020. Mr. Cortina de la Fuente considers his greatest accomplishment to be breaking into the United States’ pharmaceutical market after beginning in his native Mexico and advises others that there are no limits to what can be achieved with hard work and belief.
